Rules at a glance
Who can list, when you need the Creator Plan, how the three product types differ, pricing, versions and review, and creator credits. Look up the rule you need.
Want to check a rule before you start? Look it up here. Start with the bold line in each section. If that answers it, you can stop there.
For what to click and fill in, see the step-by-step pages: Get qualified to charge, Listing and review, and Creator credits.
The short version
- Listing is free, and anyone can do it. Combo Skills, Workflows, and workbenches can all be submitted for review at no cost, with no qualification needed.
- To set a price, join the Creator Plan first. The fee, term, and benefits are listed on the plan page.
- When people pay to use your work, you receive creator credits. New credits can be redeemed for Floatboat credits after 30 days.
Free vs. paid listings
Both get reviewed. Only paid listings need the Creator Plan.
For paid products, the price is reviewed along with the content.
A free product can still cost the person using it. Your product itself is free, but any model or outside-service usage it triggers is billed to that person's own account.
Joining the Creator Plan
The fee, term, and full list of benefits are on the plan page. Joining isn't a top-up, so it doesn't turn into credits.
- How to join: click Join Creator Plan in the publish dialog, then pay in your browser. Payment goes through Stripe, and your status updates by itself once it's confirmed. Step by step: Get qualified to charge.
- What you get: set prices for Combo Skills, Workflows, and workbenches; connect your own site to FloatPass; and a chance to be featured in platform promotions. The plan page has the full list.
For what the three statuses on that page mean, see The three statuses.
How the three product types differ
Combo Skills can also be submitted on the web, and you can unlist and relist them yourself. Workflows and workbenches are submitted from the app only, and you'll need support to unlist them.
For example, a teacher's essay-grading Combo Skill is something people pay for once and keep. A freelancer's quote-building Workflow is something people pay for each time they run it.
| Combo Skill | Workflow | Workbench | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Submitted from | The app or the web | The app only | The app only |
| How people pay | Once, and they keep it. New versions can have an upgrade price | Each time they use it | Once, and they keep it. New versions can have an upgrade price |
| Can you unlist it yourself? | Yes | No, contact support | No, contact support |
| Can you relist after unlisting? | Yes, with Request relisting | No | No |
Pricing
Prices are in credits. Enter a whole number, 0 or more. 0 means free.
- Pay-once products (Combo Skills and workbenches): the first time you list, there's a single price. For every later version, you set a Price for new buyers and an Upgrade price for existing owners. The upgrade price is the credits someone who owns an earlier version pays to move to this one. Enter 0 for a free upgrade.
- Pay-per-use Workflows: you also choose a Charge timing. Charged when execution starts charges right away. Charged when execution succeeds only keeps the charge if the run succeeds, and gives it back if it doesn't.
- Review never changes your price. The price is reviewed with the version. People who bought an earlier version keep paying that version's price.
- A new price needs a new version. Change the content, then submit a new version. If the files are identical to the listed version, the listed price stays.
Registry names and version numbers
The registry name is your product's fixed name on the marketplace and can't change after listing. The version number has to go up with every submission.
- Registry name: lowercase letters, digits,
-, and_only. Choose carefully, because it's fixed once listed. For Combo Skills, the marketplace assigns one for you. - Version number: three numbers separated by dots, MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH, such as
1.0.0. Each submission has to be higher than the highest version you've ever submitted, and a number you've used can't be used again. - Flag changes that could break things for existing users. If this version changes how it's used, so people relying on the old way might run into problems, answer Yes to Does this version include breaking changes?
Review
Every version is reviewed. When changes are requested, or a version is rejected or unlisted, you'll get the reason.
- Changes requested, rejections, and unlisting all come with a reason in the review feedback.
- You hear about approvals and rejections right away.
- While a new version is in review, buyers still get the version that's currently listed. The new one replaces it only after it's approved.
For how the app and the web name each status, see Listing and review.
Creator credits
When someone pays to buy, upgrade, or run your product, you receive creator credits. After 30 days, you can redeem them for Floatboat credits.
- The Creator Data page has the details. The rules are the same for all three product types and follow the platform rules. Changes are announced ahead of time with the date they take effect.
- Two things don't count: people getting your product for free, and you buying your own product.
- New credits are locked for 30 days. The page shows this as T+30, meaning 30 days from the day they're recorded before you can redeem them.
- A refund takes the matching credits back. If you'd already redeemed them, your balance can go negative, and your next credits cover that first.
- Redeeming: unlocked creator credits can be turned into Floatboat credits for running models and tasks.
For how to do it, see Creator credits.
