App actions the agent can use
All 106 actions Floatboat's agent can take on the app for you, with what each one does, whether it changes anything, and where it works.
When you say "hide the file browser" or "archive these old tasks," the agent does it for you with a tool called host_action. What it can do is a fixed list. If something isn't on the list, it can't do it and can't work around it.
All 106 actions are listed below. Check here when you're not sure whether you can hand something off, or when you spot a host_action line under More details in a reply and want to know what it did. If you'd rather start with how to ask, read Let Floatboat do it for you.
Before you read the tables
It doesn't ask first. None of these actions show a "run this?" prompt. You ask, it does it. So when you want something deleted, installed, or published, say exactly which one.
The Type column tells you how much an action touches:
- Read only: looks, changes nothing.
- View: changes only how the window in front of you looks. Close it or switch back and things go back to how they were.
- Changes data: changes data on your computer, but in ways you can undo, like renaming, archiving, or changing a shortcut.
- Bigger impact: deletes, installs, publishes, runs an automation, goes online to check for updates, or quits the app. Be specific when you ask for one of these.
When the type ends in this window, the action only works in the Floatboat window you're chatting in. If the request comes from a chat app on your phone, a scheduled task, a calendar event, or a Memo, there's no such window. The action just fails instead of touching some other window.

Two helper actions
These two don't do anything for you directly. The agent uses them to check what it can do, and whether something went through.
| Action | What it does | Type |
|---|---|---|
host.list_capabilities | Lists the actions it can use right now, in this conversation | Read only |
host.get_action_status | When an action didn't report back, checks whether it actually went through | Read only |
If an action is missing from host.list_capabilities, it just can't be used in this conversation. Floatboat still has the feature.
What's not on the list
These either go through a different route or aren't possible at all:
- Reading and writing files, running commands, and Git. Those use the agent's usual file and terminal tools. Before it writes a file or runs a command, you'll see Permission Required.
- Settings beyond those four. Change the rest yourself in Settings.
- Publishing or unpublishing pages. It can only look at pages you've already published.
- Other apps. It only works on Floatboat itself.
Something not working?
It says an action isn't available. Check whether the action is marked "this window." If it is, ask in the Floatboat window you're chatting in. It won't work from a chat app on your phone or from a scheduled task.
It can't find what you asked it to delete. Deleting only works on archived spaces and tasks. Have it archive first, then ask it to delete.
An action never reported back. Ask it to "check whether that last step went through." It uses host.get_action_status to find out, instead of doing it again.
What's next
- How to ask and how to see what it did: Let Floatboat do it for you
- Build your own workbench: Build a workbench with an outside agent
Advanced
For people who want to dig a little deeper. What the agent can do in the app, how workbenches run, building one with an outside agent, and connecting your own site to FloatPass.
How workbenches work
How a workbench runs, how to write its manifest, and what each Floatboat capability it can call does (models, speech recognition, agents, Workflows, connected services, calendars, automations, and spaces), with how to call it and its limits.
